Catch up on these Nigerian Web Series.

Web Series have come a long way in Nigeria. Over there the years, there has been a remarkable increase in the number and quality of shows that have hit the internet. Nowadays, creators pay detailed attention to cinematography, script writing, acting, editing, music and every other aspect of production. What this means is, making a web show is no longer a valid excuse for creating a project that falls below standard. Most people – people like me – now prefer binge watching shows rather than watching the television.

Before I proceed, I would like to make it perfectly clear that this is not a list of the “top” or “best” Nigerian web series. Rather, it is a not so comprehensive list of indigenously produced drama web series’. With that said, here, in no particular order, are some Nigerian web series you can get to streaming right now.

Rumor Has It.

Shuga [Season 3&4]

Production Company: MTV Staying Alive Foundation Production

Release Year: Season 3: 2013 Season 4: 2015

I do not think much need be said about Shuga. The multiple awards winning show is what you get when sex education meets entertainment. Shuga follows the lives of various youths and young adults as they navigate relationships and life generally.

Watch Season Four

Gidi Up

Production Company: NdaniTv

Release Year: Season 1: 2013 Season 2: 2014

This was the show that really got me hinged on web shows. And till date, a reference point for web shows in Nigeria. Ndani got everything right with Gidi Up; it was a hundred percent Nigerian show. Set in the heart of Lasgidi, Gidi Up follows the lives of a group of friends on a quest to make something out of their lives by any means necessary, a quest to live the Lagos dream.

Production Company: Blue Graffiti Films

I love Crimson, it is well researched, educative and entertaining web series. Over three episodes, the Nigerian historical thriller offers an intriguing show presented with beautiful acting, acting deserving of award recognition. I hope this series returns for a second season someday.
